Deep Blue Yachting - Co-Ownership Program FAQs

Do I have to have good sailing skills to own a yacht?

No. It is common practice on quality vessels to employ a captain, chef, and/or crew as necessary. Not only will the professional staff insure the safety of the vessel and it's passengers, they will maintain condition of the yacht insuring comfort and investment security.

We pride ourselves in dealing with professional crew who are capable of sharing their knowledge and experiences to those interested in learning. We are deeply enthusiastic about yachting and strive to share the appreciation we have of the sport to all that we can.

I am a pretty solid sailor. If I have a captain/crew aboard, will I still be able to sail?

Absolutely. The captain and crew are there for when you need them.

Where will the boat travel?

The yacht will travel around the world based on consensus of owners. At the beginning of each year, the captain of the vessel will develop a proposed float plan, taking into account the desires of the owners and upcoming global events of potential interest. Our goal is to make certain you have the greatest time possible, both on the yacht and ashore at special destinations.

Can I have my personal belongings on the boat?

Absolutely. When you arrive at your yacht, your pictures will be on the walls, your CD's in the stereo, your sailing gear in the locker.

Can I bring guests? Can I send guests without coming myself?

Yes to both. The number of available cabins depends on the particular boat, but in general there are at least six berths (in three cabins) for owner and guests.

How many partners can a boat have?

There is no limitation, however we try to keep it at a minimum as it generally provides more gratifying scheduling and a better overall experience. We target four partners per vessel, but will vary this according to needs and desires.

How much does it cost?

Again, depends on the vessel and the arrangement. As an example, 25% of a $2MM yacht costs you $500K. You will get access to the vessel for about 12 weeks out of the year. Basic annual costs will be about $50K.

When can I sell my portion of the yacht?

You can sell your share at any point, to either an existing partner or a third party. Deep Blue Yachting will assist in the sale of any share.

Can Deep Blue help me find partners?

Absolutely. We are continually in contact with prospective owners and work diligently to match similar tastes and interests. Whether you would like to travel the world in a classic staysail schooner or a light and modern machine, we can help you find partners.
